In honor of an illustrious Anatomist: Giovanni Falconi

On 22 March 2024 a square in Cagliari was dedicated to the anatomist Giovanni Falconi (Cagliari 1817-1900), wich was for 45 years a professor of Human Anatomy at the University of Cagliari, Surgeon, Doctor and saved thousands of lives thanks to the invention of a minimally invasive vaccination needle against smallpox. The proposal came from the Clemente Susini Association and the Medical Council of Cagliari who jointly enhanced the figure of Falconi. The ceremony was led by the Mayor Paolo Truzzu, the Councillor Alessio Mereu, the Parish Priest of the Cathedral Monsignor Alberto Pala, with talks by Emilio Montaldo - President of the Medical Council, Francesco Falconi - great-grandson of the illustrious anatomist, Marcello Trucas - member of the Clemente Susini Association, Marina Quartu - Full Professor of Anatomy, Luigi Zorcolo - Deputy director of the Department of Surgery, Enrico Cocco - mayor of Samatzai, birthplace of Falconi's mother.

The Commendatore, Cavaliere Falconi, was Professor Emeritus of the University of Cagliari, beloved and esteemed Dean of the Faculty of Medicine from 1884 to 1889, as well as Surgeon and Director of the Anatomy of Cagliari for over thirty years. The City, the University, the Clemente Susini Association, the Medical Council are proud.
